Cause I took out $90 a week ago and have.. um.. $49 left, and no clear recollection of where it went. I know I went out to eat, bought some little things for my mom, a couple snacks, a bagel sandwich for breakfast, um..
See, I needed cash because I have to take a cab tomorrow and wanted to have cash on me to pay for it. And I figured I should get $90 so I could get closer to the actual fare than I would with only $20s. Then I thought I should get some fives and broke a twenty.. then broke a ten to get singles.. and now I have five $5 bills, nine $1 bills, and one twenty left. And that twenty was supposed to stay in my purse as emergency money.
Oops. I guess I have to go to the bank again.. but this time only take out $20!

me too! every time I take out cash it fades away and I don't know where it went. even when I stash some cash for emergencies in my wallet, it finds its way out. I've just given up and stopped carrying cash a couple years ago.
I love cash for specific things. I pull out enough for groceries and gas on payday and put them in seperate parts of my wallet. My own style of an envelope system. When that's gone I have no more gas/food money so I'm careful with it. But if I pull it out for anything else, forget it.
I'm exactly the same way. That's why I limit my cash to what I get from the occasional Pinecone check...
Hi Kira!
I'm the same way. I'm trying out the pocket notebook thing right now. It seems to make me more aware of what I'm spending and I find I am actually spending less since I have to write it down. (YES! I'm THAT lazy!)
Try the notebook. It really does help keep your money on your mind and your mind on your money.
Doesn't one twenty, five fives, and nine ones add up to $54, not $49?
I also find that cash runs through my fingers...I don't like to carry it for that reason.
About the only thing I use cash for is laundry. Everything else goes on my debit or credit card. I track all my expenses so it is much easier to not use cash.
I usually use my debit card for everything, which is essentially a notebook system. =) I pretty much never carry any cash because I know I am bad at keeping track of it.. plus having a lot of cash makes me feel like I have more money than I do and I tend to blow it.
And yes, I meant to write four fives.. but yes, I am that bad at math ;)
Interesting how all the gurus go on about how easy it is to spend using credit cards and that using cash will help people be frugal, btu all of us find it easy to spend cash (including me).
I can understand what you mean. :) I have essentially tried to cut down my monthly cash supply to a mere $10 for the same reason...it just vanishes :)
I'm the same way ... a girl paid me $50 for a book i bought and i know where $10 went ... but the other $40 is still a mystery.
i try and only withdraw $10 or less at the bank instead of using the ATM where I get $20 in one big lump.
